This one combines everything I like about a paddle tail lure: a fat, soft tail; a slotted belly for proper weedless hook presentation (and to provide the ideal space for smearing your favourite scent); a realistic fish shape. Plus the Ecogear scientific flavouring that I'm actually growing to quite like. I didn't like the smell at first, but it's proving its worth!
I hadn't actually used the BTS until recently in the Weymouth Bass Lure Festival. By the end of the 3 days though, it was actually my best fish catcher! A slow retrieve seemed to do the trick, especially when I screwed one of the Ecogear Blade Spin in to the belly (which also helps to secure the hook in place and prevent the bait from slipping). The extra vibration provided by the blade, working with the tail made the bait a very easy target in the not-so-clear water. A slow straight retrieve was all that was needed and I look forward to using this combination a lot more from now on. Especially after dark as well.
It's designed to be used either on a jighead or with a weedless, weighted or unweighted hook. The belly slit makes it all possible! Retrieves just need to be the simple slow one I mention. The speed is up to you!
This is how they rig them. I so similar with the blade, but without the jig.
Here's what Ecogear say about it:
The most appealing of all the ECOGEAR SHAD type lures, BTS. The combination of a realistic bait fish appearance and shape, with a thick fat heavy tail, makes the lure furiously beat at the water to produce a strong resonation. It slow wobbles makes it even more naturally attractive to the target fish. BTS is effective on a wide range of predator fish, such as sea bass, rockfish and flatfish.
The most prominent feature is the fat think heavy tail that kicks strongly through the water to produce a strong presence. The finely crafted tail is balanced to accommodate fast and slow retrievals, while producing a strong vibration from the time in hits the water to its retrieval never missing out a bite chance.
A slit from the neck to the belly has also been built in to the lure. The slit allows for effective offset hooking even with this tall and thin body. The slit depth has been set so as to not inhibit its natural movement.
Excellent with the highly effective jig head rig or offset hook Texas rig. Not only great in open water but also highly appealing around roots, and rocky areas where hard lures falter.
