Finally, our hunt for the perfect LRF reel is over!
There may be more expensive reels out there with fancier features (if you want to spend twice as much money), but we have just secured stock of the extremely smooth and lovely Daiwa Gekkabijin MX 2004 reels!
What's so great about them? They're lightweight, shallow spooled, super smooth things of perfection! Ideally matched with almost any < 8' ultralight rod. The shallow spool is perhaps the biggest benefit. If you are one o the many of people who has tried 0.2-0.4PE braid then you will have noticed that due to it's tiny diameter, it really doesn't take up that much room on the spool. The solution has always been to whack loads of mono (or similar) backing on underneath, but with these reels, it is barely necessary.
Daiwa's sizing is easy to understand once you've been told.
As with the bigger reels, you may sometimes see models with numbers at the end of what may neem a standard 2500 or 3000 number. There are 5 variations with Daiwa.
I should probably write a dedicated article for that at some point.
Anyway, the big news for now is that the GEKKABIJIN'S ARE HEEEEEEERE!!!!! :-)
