OSP DoLive Stick

The DoLive Stick is a lure that we stocked from the day that we opened, back in 2010. We always sold a few, but not many. Very different to now. They were the first lure that I ever caught a bass on whilst doing "nothing". The truth is that most people didn't really have a clue how to fish them best back then, myself included. However, once the best methods and applications were learnt and discovered, there was no stopping the popularity and fish they catch.

Vital Statistics

  • The OSP DoLive Stick 6" is a slim type soft plastic lure that crosses the boundary between fish and worm imitation. The chunky worm body narrows to a slimmer, whippy tail. At the end of the tail is a slightly more bulbous section around 10mm long which creates a more inertia-driven kick when twitched. Sinking horizontally with no added weight, the fatter tail also creates a wobbling motion as the lure sinks. A very versatile lure.

  • Length: 6" (150mm)
  • Weight: 13.6g
  • Scent: Strong crab/shrimp smell. Very potent! Love it.
  • Per pack: 6

How to fish an OSP DoLive Stick?

This is one question that comes up time and time again. When the lures were first available with us in the UK in 2010, nobody really knew. Designed in Japan for dropshot, Texas, Carolina or weightless rigs, the theory of these lures from a bass fishing point of view was always good, but we spent a lot of years not getting the most from them. For our bass fishing, it was the weedless and "weightless" element that always seemed most appealing.

For a long time we assumed that you were best simply twitching them gently and almost allowing them to free-fall, wobbling their tails slowly as they went. This can work absolutely great if you're fishing in any tidal flow or estuary current. However, out on the coast where there may be no such amount of water movement, it turns out that a faster retrieve is often best. Quite the opposite of what we imagined for quite a few years.

Simply cast and retrieve fairly quickly with the lure staying near the surface. You can mess about with them entirely to try different things. They appear to be catching more fish for us on a steady retrieve with occasional twitches. More like a plug almost. Mark catches a lot of fish on them so if you need advice, give the shop a call.

The DoLive was also the first lure that I ever caught a fish on doing "nothing". Cast on a 10g jighead and left motionless on the sand in a short break, a small bass picked one up while I was just holding the rod and fishing it more like a bottom bait. This shows their immense effectiveness. I've repeated this many times since (even though many anglers ignore the effectiveness of a jighead setup with these lures.

Rigging a DoLive Stick

Most popular is simply with a standard weedless/worm hook (unweighted or slightly weighted for choppier conditions). We recommend the 5/0 Owner Twistlock 5167 if you want one choice to make it simple. These hooks have a narrow gape and long shank so they're also fine with 4/0 and 6/0 options.

Similar Lures

Also see the Doomsday Tackle Laggin' Dragon. This lure is very similar in design. Slightly shorter, they are heaving salted and cast brilliantly for their size. They have a bulkier tail than the DoLive which gives more of a kick when twitched. They're also available in white! The mystical White DoLive Stick is a special limited edition colour so is not always available. the Laggin Dragon make a great alternative if white is your colour. Fish on the same 5/0 Owner hook and in the same way.
